This document will tell you everything you need to know for the semi-finals. Ensure that you read it carefully before asking any questions. Make sure you also read all the rules as well.

It’s time to put your fate into this competition partly into your hands. As with the quarter-finals you are required to submit TWO (2) songs, but this time you can choose between three different options. Each option is a song originally sung by many singers, and we would like you to recreate it (with your own unique twist of course) with just yourself.
OPTION 1: One Person Choir
Choose any song and sing it as though it is sung by a whole choir. You may have a soloist in your arrangement, but we must get that choir sound. You may sing this option ACAPELLA using the Blank track provided on the @ITMOfficial Songbook. You may use ANY version.
Add #OPTION1 to your songs description if you choose this option.
OPTION 2: Musical Theatre
Choose a song sung by 2 characters or more AND the ensemble. You cannot add the ensemble to a song, the original arrangement MUST have had the ensemble on it. Any song that falls within the musical theatre genre is valid here, stage, film or TV is all acceptable. You may use ANY version.
Add #OPTION2 to your songs description if you choose this option.
OPTION 3: Musical Groups
Choose any song ORIGINALLY (that means no covers) by a vocal musical group (e.g. Boyzone). The musical group MUST have had at least 3 members and all those members MUST have sung. Any genre and any version are fine as long as the group originally sang the song.

ROUND CRITERIA
- You MUST submit TWO(2) Songs this round.
- You must choose two different options.
- Follow the briefs carefully.
- LAYERS
- Minimum – 4 (You +3)
- Maximum – Unlimited
- HARMONY
- No minimum harmony requirement, but it will be expected on ALL options.
- FX
- ALLOWED: None, Polish, Studio, Superstudio, Indie, SF Opera,
- NOT ALLOWED: Magic, Pop, Super Pop, Double You, Grunge, Stardust, Super Harmony
- Significant Lyric Changes, Mashups, Medley’s, and Acapella are NOT ALLOWED unless otherwise specified in the brief.
- Lyrical additions ARE ALLOWED
- Video entries are NOT ALLOWED
- Backing Vocals on the backing track are NOT ALLOWED
- This includes any sound made by a human voice, including sampled sounds that have been heavily processed.
- If you are unsure, please ask your mentor for verification.
- You MAY upload your own backing track to the smule songbook.
- You are NOT ALLOWED to open a Freestyle Track
- Your entry MUST be opened as a group.
- Your entry MUST be at least 2 minutes long.
- Language: English
- You MUST use headphones
PLEASE NOTE: Neither Judges or Mentors can approve your chosen song’s theme is valid. It is YOUR responsibility to ensure your song fits the theme.

Once you have submitted you CANNOT CHANGE ANYTHING. If you do then you will be disqualified. - LOCKING IN
A member of the admin team will comment on your song once submitted to let you know that it has been accepted. Please be patient. If you submit with less than 24 hours left to go your song may not be commented on, but it will be considered locked from the point of submission.
It is not a requirement for this competition to have an active VIP status. If you are a non-vip user, please read the following information carefully.
- You may ask a mentor to open up to 3 practice songs for you to practice with.
- When you are ready to record your final version you must message a Head Judge or Admin and ask them to open the chosen song for you at least 24 HOURS prior to the round deadline. This will be opened using the ITMOfficial Smule Account.
- Please screenshot the version of the song you want them to open and give it to them.
- You will also need to ask them to close your song, make it public and tell them what to add to the description (e.g. hashtags etc) BEFORE the deadline (we recommend at least 8hrs prior). This is YOUR responsibility! Failure to do so will result in penalties and in some cases disqualification.
- Please remember people are in different time zones, and we all have busy lives, so they may not respond immediately. If you have not heard from your Mentor or Head Judge/Admin after 24 hours please message someone else.
- DO NOT leave this to the last minute.

The following will result in automatic disqualification.
- Late submission
- Failure to submit
- Someone other than yourself joining your entry
- Submitting a song opened prior to the release date of the round.
- Submitting a song you have previously sung in an audition or round.
- Changing anything once the entry has been submitted
- Breaking the rules of the competition
- Adding anyone to any chat room
- Removing anyone from any chat room
- Posting notes/polls etc in any chat room
- Deleting any notes or images (other than your own) from the chat rooms.
- Changing the settings of any chatroom
- Submitting an Original Song.
- Leaving the main chat room.
- Repeatedly not following the rules of the chat room despite warnings.
If you choose to receive critique on your song/performance, please don’t take anything personally. Whether your critique is full of praise or constructive it is only meant to help you improve and to make you a better singer.
