This document will tell you everything you need to know for Round 2. Ensure that you read it carefully before asking any questions. Make sure you also read all the rules as well.

Well, you were victorious in the battle round and now we want to learn a bit more about you as an artist. Most of us have been inspired by an artist, musician or band. For this round we want you to sing a song by an artist, musician or band who inspired you. It must be the original version.
We would also like you to sing this as a solo. Yes, just one single layer. We are NOT expecting a carbon copy of the original lead vocal. We will be expecting you to put your own stamp on the song and show us who YOU are as an artist.
Your mentors may very well be key in this round to help you choose the best song for this! Use them wisely.
We would like to invite you to write in your description why this artist inspired you.

ROUND CRITERIA
- You MUST sing a song sung by an artist that inspires you.
- it must be the original version of the song. You are not allowed to use alternative versions.
- You may use songs your artist covered (e.g. is Johnny Cash is the artist that inspires you, you may sing his version of Hurt. However if Nine Inch Nails is the artist that inspires you, you cannot sing the Johnny Cash version)

- NOT ALLOWED: Magic, Pop, Super Pop, Double You, Grunge, Stardust, Super Harmony
- Significant Lyric Changes, Medley’s, Mashups and Acapella are NOT ALLOWED
- Lyrical additions ARE ALLOWED
- Video entries are NOT ALLOWED
- Backing Vocals on the backing track are NOT ALLOWED
- We class backing vocals as ANY sound made by a human voice on a backing track.
- You MAY upload your own backing track to the smule songbook.
- You are NOT ALLOWED to open a Freestyle Track
- Your entry MUST be opened as a solo.
- Your entry MUST be at least 2 minutes long.
- Language: English only
- You MUST use headphones
PLEASE NOTE: Neither Judges or Mentors can approve your chosen song’s theme is valid. It is YOUR responsibility to ensure your song fits the theme.

Once you have submitted you CANNOT CHANGE ANYTHING. If you do then you will be disqualified. - LOCKING IN
A member of the admin team will comment on your song once submitted to let you know that it has been accepted. Please be patient. If you submit with less than 24 hours left to go your song may not be commented on, but it will be considered locked from the point of submission.
It is not a requirement for this competition to have an active VIP status. If you are a non-vip user, please read the following information carefully.
- You may ask a mentor to open up to 3 practice songs for you to practice with.
- When you are ready to record your final version you must message a Head Judge or Admin and ask them to open the chosen song for you at least 24 HOURS prior to the round deadline. This will be opened using the ITMOfficial Smule Account.
- Please screenshot the version of the song you want them to open and give it to them.
- You will also need to ask them to close your song, make it public and tell them what to add to the description (e.g. hashtags etc) BEFORE the deadline (we recommend at least 8hrs prior). This is YOUR responsibility! Failure to do so will result in penalties and in some cases disqualification.
- Please remember people are in different time zones, and we all have busy lives, so they may not respond immediately. If you have not heard from your Mentor or Head Judge/Admin after 24 hours please message someone else.
- DO NOT leave this to the last minute.

The following will result in automatic disqualification.
- Late submission
- Failure to submit
- Someone other than yourself joining your entry
- Submitting a song opened prior to the release date of the round.
- Submitting a song you have previously sung in an audition or round.
- Changing anything once the entry has been submitted
- Breaking the rules of the competition
- Adding anyone to any chat room
- Removing anyone from any chat room
- Posting notes/polls etc in any chat room
- Deleting any notes or images (other than your own) from the chat rooms.
- Changing the settings of any chatroom
- Submitting an Original Song.
- Leaving the main chat room.
- Repeatedly not following the rules of the chat room despite warnings.
If you choose to receive critique on your song/performance, please don’t take anything personally. Whether your critique is full of praise or constructive it is only meant to help you improve and to make you a better singer.
